Public give their support to open house signs

A proposed by-law amendment in Richmond Hill that will allow open house signs on public property, appears to be supported by residents.

Toronto Real Estate Board has published the results of a poll by Ipsos which shows that 83% of Richmond Hill residents approve the use of the signs.

Richmond Hill is unique in the GTA in not allowing the signs on public property.

Michael Collins, President of the Toronto Real Estate Board, said that Realtors work hard to ensure the best marketing of clients’ homes.

“Even in this day and age, open houses and open house signs still play an important role in this regard,” he said.

Most residents (71%) are in favour of the by-law changes but want the times, days, and locations of open house signs to be regulated.

With positive backing for real estate marketing, more than 8 in 10 respondents said that open house signs are useful for marketing their neighbourhood to potential homebuyers and three quarters said the signs are helpful and a useful component of buying or selling a home.

“TREB strongly supports the by-law amendments being proposed by Richmond Hill staff. We believe that these changes will help to ensure the legitimate use of open house signs and will allow Realtors to provide the services that their Richmond Hill clients want and expect them to,” said Collins.
