Canadian jobs increased by 30,400 last month says ADP

There was better news for the Canadian labour market in June as employment rebounded from a downwardly revised decline of 36,700 in May.

The ADP Canada National Employment Report shows that 30,400 jobs were added in the month based on ADP’s actual payroll data for nonfarm roles.

"June experienced higher acceleration in job growth following a sharp decline in May," said Ahu Yildirmaz, vice president and co-head of the ADP Research Institute. "Construction delivered the biggest contribution to the increase, along with professional/business services which reflects the increasing demand for high skilled workers."

Construction added 10,400 jobs, the only positive in the goods producing sector with natural resources and mining losing 500 jobs and manufacturing remaining flat.

For the services sector, it was professional/business services that gained the most, up 8,800 month-over-month, while trade/transportation and utilities added 7,000, and education and healthcare gained 2,500.

But the real estate/finance group saw 2,000 fewer jobs than in the previous month.
