The association’s 10,500 members now have a free subscription to LifeLine Response which can summon help from emergency responders at the touch of a button.
"Realtors love helping their clients with the largest and most important purchases of their lives, but the job requires us to sometimes work alone in unfamiliar locations and with relative strangers," says Jennifer Gilbert, AREA Chair. "The LifeLine Response app is an important tool in improving Realtor safety."
The app uses GPS technology and an iPhone or Android phone and can connect to the user’s personal support network as well as emergency responders.
In June, a real estate agent in Calgary reported a sexual assault at an open house and other agents spoke to the Calgary Sun to share their experiences.
“When you’re a young female, you’re alone in the house most of the time. A lot of young Realtors can’t afford to pay for an assistant,” said local agent Kristina Lozic.
AREA already has mandatory safety courses and it is working to make them even more robust.
