Ontario markets continue to grow

It wasn’t just the GTA that started 2017 on a positive note as real estate agents in some of Ontario’s other markets have reported.

"We're off to a tremendous start this year with our best January ever," said Jim Smith, London and St Thomas Association of Realtors’ 2017 President.

The area saw 574 sales, up 26.2 per cent from a year earlier despite tight supply. Average sales price was up 0.5 per cent from December to $285,418.

Windsor-Essex saw a 12 per cent jump in sales from a year earlier while the average price was up 6.37 per cent year-over-year to 219,083.

Meanwhile, Kitchener-Waterloo Association of Realtors reported sales of 327 homes in January, up 5.8 per cent year-over-year.

“The continued strong demand combined with a tight supply of listings means that many properties are not on the market for very long,” says James Craig, President of the KWAR. “This has created an extremely competitive buying environment.”
