Vancouver still the top draw for millennials

More than two thirds of millennials would choose to buy or rent a home in Vancouver’s Lower Mainland – if they had the money!

A new poll by Insights West for Resonance Consultancy shows that 68 per cent of young British Columbians would like to live in the prime Greater Vancouver location but may otherwise opt to leave the province.

Victoria, Vancouver Island South, Gulf Islands, Kelowna and Thompson Okanagan are other popular choices, although all below 20 per cent among respondents. Leaving the province is only the choice of 14 per cent.

Millennials in BC are intending to move in the next five years (70 per cent said so) but most will stay in their current region (76 per cent) although more than a third may end up leaving the province. Almost three-quarters of millennials living in Vancouver intend to buy a home there.

“There is a tremendous challenge ahead for policy-makers and politicians to make Greater Vancouver affordable and welcoming for Millennials who clearly want to live and work in the region,” says Resonance president, Chris Fair.
