Why Central Heating is Still One of the Best Options for Keeping Your House Warm

Central heating can be a little bit complicated with thermostats, boilers, and different sources of fuels like oil, gas, etc. However, it doesn’t have to be all that arduous and central heating is still one of the best options when it comes to heating your house and keeping your rooms warm without breaking the bank.

In this article we’re going to look at some of the other heating solutions available on the market and see how they compare to just using your central heating.

Traditional Fireplace

Chopping or getting your winter delivery of aging wood or coal can be a fun time for any family. And it’s something that’s been done for generations. A traditional fireplace can, of course, keep your house warm and if your fireplace is located centrally in your house and doesn’t have to warm up too much space then it can be fairly effective. The issue is that because a fireplace is an old technology, it can get costly. Unless you have your own trees and the time to chop them down, then even just buying the wood can get costly. Plus, you have to store it and make sure it is dry, all of which takes up space.

In terms of its energy efficiency, a fireplace is fairly cheap to run, but as soon as that fire goes out or is no longer roaring with flames, the temperature in your home will drop just as rapidly. You also can’t just switch off the heat or turn it down or up like you can with central heating, which means you’ll likely end up wasting energy and heat.

Electric Fan Heaters/Halogen Bulbs

Electric fan heaters and halogen bulbs were once believed to be one of the cheapest sources of heating around (especially the halogen heat bulbs), however with electric prices constantly on the rise they are actually fairly expensive to run. Electric and halogen heaters provide instant heat, however this tends to mean that as quickly as it may feel warm after switching them on, it goes cold again just as quick when you switch them off. Compare this to central heating, and the central heating systems and the radiators designed by companies like Warm Rooms have been constructed in such a way so as to keep the room warmer for longer.

If you are just trying to boost the temperature in one room/area for a short time period, electric and halogen heaters can still be effective but the costs can soon add up.

Why Does Central Heating Work So Well?

Put simply, central heating puts you in control of the temperature. You can turn off radiators completely and set how warm or cold you would like the whole house to be from one central thermostat. This then means you won’t “feel the cold” as much when you move from room to room. Likewise, if you’re just heating one or two rooms in the house, you will notice a significant difference in temperature when you leave these rooms.
