Canadians positive about their financial goals says CIBC

The vast majority of Canadians are optimistic that they will achieve their financial goals according to a new poll by bank and mortgage lender CIBC. Eighty per cent of respondents said that they are confident of achieving their future financial goals, down from 85 per cent a year ago. The figure rises to 88 per cent for those in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, up from 82 per cent a year earlier. In other provinces though sentiment has fallen: 82 per cent in BC (down from 85 per cent); 80 per cent in Ontario (82 per cent); and 84 per cent in Quebec (90 per cent). The sharpest drops in optimism are in Alberta (down to 72 per cent from 92 per cent in 2015) and Atlantic Canada (down to 69 per cent from 84 per cent.)

On current finances 69 per cent feel positive about their circumstances, down from 74 per cent a year ago. Alberta again saw the largest drop at 62 per cent compared to 83 per cent in 2015. Younger Canadians are generally more confident in their finances and goals.
